HARDWOOD DECKING COMPARISON

Red Balau:
Excellent combination of interlocking grain, hardness and dark brown color uniformity.  Considered my  most, to be the best combination of beauty and durability.  Interlocking grain minimizes surface checking.  Strength 20,100; Stiffness 2,540.

IPE Species: One of the most dense decking products available.  Air dried products. Surface checking is common after installation.  Ends must be waxed after cutting to avoid end checking.  Must pre-drilled prior to nailing.  Strength 24,900; Stiffness 3,140

Dark Red Meranti Bukit: This "Hill Meranti" is a proven high performer for over 25 years.  Good decay resistance and wear ability, as well as one of the most beautiful finishing hardwood decking woods.  Strength 14,500; Stiffness 1,830.

Red Meranti: A medium density species providing a less costly, but still effective decking product. Used in marine applications and fine furniture for over 50 years.  Should be finished. 
Strength 12,100; Stiffness 1,690.

Cambara: A uniform medium brown hardwood that has been used for decking only fairly recently.  Good lengths and color uniformity.  Often reported to be prone to surface checking.  Strength 12,000; Stiffness 1,480.
